The world has reacted with shock and condemnation after US President Donald Trump declared his ambition to "take over" and “own” the Gaza Strip during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.rich 888

The idea, believed to have originated with Trump himself, was met with praise from Netanyahu, who called it "remarkable" and remained smiling beside the US president throughout the conference.

Trump went on to describe Gaza as “a symbol of death and destruction,” and suggested that those who “lived there, died there, and lived a miserable existence there” should instead relocate to “other countries of interest”—all 1.8 million of them.

His offhand remarks on what he envisioned as the way forward have sparked outrage from world leaders, human rights groups, and UN officials, accusing him of openly suggesting ethnic cleansing.

Trump tried to sell his master plan for Gaza saying the people would have “peace” and they won’t be “shot at” and “killed”.

“The only reason the Palestinians want to go back to Gaza is they have no alternative. It’s right now a demolition site. This is just a demolition site. Virtually every building is down. They’re living under fallen concrete that’s very dangerous and very precarious. They instead can occupy all of a beautiful area with homes and safety and they can live out their lives in peace and harmony instead of having to go back and do it again.”

The youngster displayed goalkeeping masterclass in the shoot-out, saving all four of Pakistan’s attempts after the match was drawn 1-1 in regulation time.

Defending champions India will now face off against China, who beat Pakistan in the first semi-final.

And to make this plan a reality, Trump said, the US would “take over the Gaza Strip”.

Netanyahu Hails Trump For Gaza Take Over Plan, Calls It A 'Remarkable Idea'

“The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out. Create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area … do a real job, do something different,” he added.

Netanyahu, who had been reluctant about the Gaza ceasefire when it was announced weeks ago, seemed positively satisfied with the proposal. In an interview with Fox News later in the day, he said it was the first good idea he’d heard.

“It’s a remarkable idea, and I think it should be really pursued, examined, and done, because I think it will create a different future for everyone.”

However, support for the plan to transform Gaza into the “Riviera of Middle East” remains limited.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, at a UN committee meeting, warned against any form of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, in what is believed to be a response to President Trump’s announcement, though he did not explicitly mention any names.

And in his social media post on X, Guterres said, “The Palestinian people have the right to simply live as human beings in their own land.”

This is not the first time Donald Trump has proposed a “clean out” of Gaza. On January 26, during a question and answer session, Trump, while mentioning what a “phenomenal location” Gaza is and how something had to be done about it, said he would like to see Jordan, Egypt and other Arab nations increase the number of Palestinian refugees they are accepting.

However this suggestion was turned down by the two countries. Jordan’s foreign minister, Ayman Safadi said that his country’s rejection of the proposed transfer of Palestinians was “firm and unwavering”.

And they have once again condemned Trump’s recent announcement declaring the US' ambitions of taking over Gaza.

Jordan's King Abdullah firmly rejected any attempts to annex land or displace Palestinians, while Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasised the need for faster humanitarian aid, saying Palestinians should not be forced to leave Gaza, as they remain deeply attached to their land.

World leaders have strongly opposed any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed that Palestinians must be allowed to return home and rebuild, working toward a two-state solution.

Saudi Arabia reiterated that it would not normalise ties with Israel without the creation of a Palestinian state. Russia believes a settlement in the Middle East is only possible on the basis of a two-state solution. The UAE and China firmly rejected any attempts to displace Palestinians, while France warned that such actions would violate international law and destabilise the region.

Hamas has condemned the proposal as an attempt to expel Palestinians from their land.

The UN Human Rights Office said, "it is crucial that we move towards the next phase of the ceasefire, to release all hostages and arbitrarily detained prisoners, end the war and reconstruct Gaza, with full respect for international humanitarian law and international human rights law. Any forcible transfer in or deportation of people from occupied territory is strictly prohibited."

Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Other US Allies Reject Trump's Gaza Rebuilding Plan | Who Said What

While Trump's announcement has sparked global debate, the big question remains—can he actually follow through with it? So far, there are no clear plans on how the U.S. would take control of Gaza. Even senior officials seemed caught off guard, with White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt later clarifying that any displacement would only be temporary.

Secretary of State Rubio echoed this, suggesting Gazans could leave for an "interim" period while reconstruction took place. However, Trump has not outlined any concrete steps, and the White House has stated that the US has no intention of sending troops or funding Gaza’s rebuilding.

Legally, the US cannot simply take over Gaza. Under international law, forcefully seizing territory is prohibited, and Israel cannot hand over Gaza to the US since it is considered occupied land. Any legal takeover would require Palestinian consent—something that is highly unlikely.

Moreoverrich 888, neighbouring countries like Jordan and Egypt are in no position to facilitate the forced or voluntary removal of over two million Gazans. And other countries don’t seem likely to help in fulfilment of this plan.
