External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar attended a meeting of the QUAD foreign ministers in Washington DC. This meeting came after the inauguration of Donald Trump as president and was the first under his second term as President of the United States.

At the meeting, Jaishankar met with Trump's newly appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Taking to social media platform X, the union minister said - "Attended a productive Quad foreign ministers’ meeting today in Washington DC. Thank secretary Marco Rubio for hosting us and FMs Penny Wong & Takeshi Iwaya for their participation. Significant that the Quad FMM took place within hours of the inauguration of the Trump Administration. This underlines the priority it has in the foreign policy of its member states."

Adding that the QUAD bloc will remain a "force for global good", the external affairs minister stated that the four partner countries - India, US, Japan and Australia - worked towards ensuring a stable Indo-Pacific region and ways to intensify their collaborations.

The 2025 QUAD Summit is expected to be held in India. In the joint statement issued by the four foreign ministers, the leaders formalised their presence at the next summit.

QUAD is a diplomatic partnership between the US, India, Australia and Japan. This bloc works towards an maintaining an "open, stable and prosperous" Indo-Pacific region.
